Privacy Policy

This site is a personal website run by Ivan Novikov. It is not a company, it sells nothing, and it has no advertising. This page says exactly what it does with data, because most of the time it does very little.

What is collected

Nothing, if you only read. Pages are served without accounts, without tracking pixels and without advertising networks. No profile of you is built, and nothing you read here is sold or shared.

Your name and picture, if you sign in to comment. Commenting uses Google Sign-In. When you sign in, the site receives your name, your email address and your profile picture from Google, and stores them alongside whatever you write. It never receives your Google password. Your comment, your name and your picture are shown publicly next to the post; your email address is not shown to anyone and is used only to recognise you when you come back.

Standard server logs. Requests reach a server, and a server writes them down: the address requested, the time, the browser's user agent, and an IP address. These are the ordinary records any web server keeps, they are used to keep the site working and to see how much traffic it gets, and they are not connected to anyone's identity.

Content published from Instagram. The site shows pictures from a public Instagram account through Meta's official Instagram API, using an access token belonging to the account's owner. This is the owner's own content, published by the owner. Nothing about you is sent to Meta by this site, and visiting this site does not connect you to Instagram.

Where it lives

Comments and their authors are stored in a Postgres database operated by Neon. The site itself is hosted on Vercel. Sign-in is handled by Google. Each of these companies processes the data only to provide its service to this site.

How long it is kept

Comments stay until you delete them or ask for them to be deleted. Server logs are kept for a short retention period by the host and then discarded.

What you can do

Delete any comment you wrote, at any time, from the comment itself. To have your account and everything attached to it removed entirely, write to [email protected] and it will be deleted — not anonymised, deleted. You can also ask for a copy of everything the site holds about you, which will be a short list.

Cookies

A session cookie is set when you sign in, so that you stay signed in. Preferences you choose, such as the light or dark theme, are kept in your own browser. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers.

Children

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, because there is no mailing list.
